This was a surprise find. The amazing amazon.com recommender found it for me and I was totally impressed. A little bit faster tempo than true laid back music, but not fast enough to get your heart rate too high for relaxing. A bit house, and made for swaying to a comfortable beat while reading a book. Buy both volumes!

Buy Back Room Vol. 1 and Back Room Vol. 2 from amazon.com

Brookstone CDs

When I think of Brookstone, I think of all the interesting tools and gadgets they sell. But over the years, I have discovered their CD collections which are quite good. I always drop by the Brookstone at LAX since I pass through that airport every week. The latest CDs I have found which are really great are:

1. Rio Lounge - Chillout in Brazil - Brazillian/Latin chill music
2. Zen Grooves - Chill music with an Asian flavor; very nice!
3. Mingle, Chillout versions of Classic Standards - new twists on oldies
4. Chillout 2: Laid Back Grooves for Urban Lifestyles - A great follow on to the first collection, which is also very good.

Definitely check out the CD display if you get to a Brookstone at your local airport or mall.

Renee Olstead

TV star gone music star - Renee Olstead has an incredible voice and style to match. I love her renditions of great oldies, and the duet on "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" brings up funny memories of Neil Sadaka, but I think I like her version better. She is among my favorites in modern female vocalists.

House music from a San Francisco hotspot called Matrix-Fillmore, apparently known now for its famous fireplace lounge, great local music talent, and a hangout for the best DJs in San Fran. Another great one from Om Records.

The next installment from my favorite series, Om Lounge, Om Lounge 10 starts off with a nice pickup beat and then quickly slows to a melodic, tantalizing mixture of electronica which is awesome for a lazy early evening glass of wine while staring out at the Manhattan skyline...

A nice collection of remixes from famous singing divas that are skillfully mixed to delight and calm your very soul. If you like to hear the sultry female voices to a lounge beat, this CD is for you!

I got a head start on Christmas this year and bought the latest from Diana Krall. There is something about her voice that I really love, and now that I'm learning her songs on the piano, I like to study her songs in order to play them better.
