Here is a list of my favorites.  I tend to keep away from the coaching books as I have a coach and don&#8217;t need training programs or advice.  I like to find books that help me understand the scientific and researched aspects of swimming, cycling, and running so that I am not reading some coach&#8217;s opinion, but rather facts that have been vetted through scientific methods.  Here they are:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0743253434\/dshencom-20\/002-5172962-8022448?%5Fencoding=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;link%5Fcode=xm2\">Total Immersion by Terry McLaughlin<\/a> &#8211; great for body positioning drills but not so good on stroke efficiency.  Check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalimmersion.net\">the Total Immersion website<\/a> for great DVDs on swimming.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0736037772\/dshencom-20\/002-5172962-8022448?%5Fencoding=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;link%5Fcode=xm2\">Breakthrough Swimming by Cecil Colwin<\/a> &#8211; history of swimming and how it evolved to the strokes used today.  Contains lots of research as well.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0736031804\/dshencom-20\/002-5172962-8022448?%5Fencoding=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;link%5Fcode=xm2\">Swimming Fastest by Ernest W. Maglischo<\/a> &#8211; lots of science in here &#8211; a huge, thick book.  Great stuff and the latest on training techniques.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/0873229592?tag=dshencom-20&#038;camp=0&#038;creative=0&#038;linkCode=as1&#038;creativeASIN=0873229592&#038;adid=1BRMJJD2AN5VDJHKR0FF&#038;\">Lore of Running by Tim Noakes<\/a> &#8211; much research into the science of running.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/0972553762?tag=dshencom-20&#038;camp=0&#038;creative=0&#038;linkCode=as1&#038;creativeASIN=0972553762&#038;adid=0TK1HZVS3DA5Y0H1TGZ0&#038;\">Pose Method of Running by Dr. Nicholas Romanov<\/a> &#8211; training to run on the balls of your feet, much MUCH easier on the knees!<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/073604129X?tag=dshencom-20&#038;camp=0&#038;creative=0&#038;linkCode=as1&#038;creativeASIN=073604129X&#038;adid=0AS4P8K5TMXBF8QGY4NF&#038;\">Serious Cycling by Ed Burke<\/a> &#8211; lots of great research into the science of cycling.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1931382204?tag=dshencom-20&#038;camp=0&#038;creative=0&#038;linkCode=as1&#038;creativeASIN=1931382204&#038;adid=098WGQSBRBAZE59AXZ4R&#038;\">Workouts in a Binder by Gale Bernhardt and Nick Hansen<\/a> &#8211; great waterproof workout book to take to the pool and do your own workouts.  Workouts range in distance from about 1500m to about 4000m, with the bulk being in mid-2000s to 3000s.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1931382743?tag=dshencom-20&#038;camp=0&#038;creative=0&#038;linkCode=as1&#038;creativeASIN=1931382743&#038;adid=0WKTS5NY8XY2MS10A5Q5&#038;\">Workouts in a Binder for Swimmers, Triathletes, and Coaches by Eric Hansen<\/a> &#8211; like the previous, but only with significantly longer workouts into the 4000s and 5000m range.  Great for Ironman training!<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1931382794?tag=dshencom-20&#038;camp=0&#038;creative=0&#038;linkCode=as1&#038;creativeASIN=1931382794&#038;adid=1WV4GKNTNE0MXZR11RFG&#038;d\">Training and Racing with a Power Meter by Andrew Coggan<\/a> &#8211; ever since I bought a computrainer and then a PowerTap, I&#8217;ve been sold on power training.
